Originating in Northern Italy, Barbera has found a true home in the Shenandoah Valley. Loving the rich clay loamy soils, Barbera had adapted well to the warm summers that bring forth its best attributes: bright acidity and fruity intensity. Swirling the wine in the light shows off an amazing shade of deep but brilliant ruby red (think slippers). That same intensity shines with aromatics of super ripe and bright cherry along with subtleties of rosemary, sage, and vanilla rising off a foundation of more cocoa-dusted cherries. The palate opens with a literal burst of those flavors that is a progression from light, to black to sour cherries. That brilliant acidity inherent with Barbera lends a “starburst” quality finish that’s long on the palate, and leaving it cleaner than when you started. This Barbera is a fabulous pairing with any tomato based sauces or stews, and rich creamy cheeses. You can enjoy this beauty now, or if you should lose track of it in the cellar for 2 to 5 to 10 years, it will reward you kindly. Bottled on June 14, 2016. 275 cases produced.
